Worthington's Griswold Center Gives Back
In addition to providing a variety of programs in art, drama, sports and education for people 55 years of age and older, the Griswold Center offers numerous ways for members to use their talents to benefit the local community. In fact, several people at the Griswold Center have been particularly busy knitting and stitching an array of beautiful items for area hospitals and charitable organizations. Women (and a few men) in the Worthington community with a knack for sewing, knitting or stitchery will want to check out these wonderful groups:
- Stitching Seniors Club – Piggybacking off a group at The James Cancer Hospital known as the Stitching Sisters, The Stitching Seniors Club meets on Wednesdays at 2 p.m. to hand-stitch lap blankets for cancer patients at the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center. (Registration Required)
- Project Linus Blankets – Helping to further the mission of this important national organization, a group of women meets each Monday at 1 p.m. to make fleece blankets. The blankets are then distributed to people in need at a number of local hospitals, shelters and social service agencies. (Registration Required)
- Social Knitting Group – Thanks to the Social Knitting Group, which meets Wednesdays at 10 a.m., families of preemies at Nationwide Children’s Hospital receive gorgeous hand-knit sweaters, hats and booties. The group also frequently donates their items to World Vision.
- Bear Hugs – What sick child wouldn’t love a new teddy bear? Every Thursday at 10 a.m., several ladies gather to make darling teddy bears for patients at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Regardless of your skill level, programs like these are a fantastic way to make new friends, enjoy a hobby, and most important, provide comfort and joy to those in need.
