The Oak Project
Why are green ribbons appearing on Oak Trees in Worthington?
The Worthington Pollinator Pathway Project is on a mission to expand the presence of native plants in our communityβbecause a healthier, more vibrant ecosystem starts with what we plant!
Among all the native plants, shrubs and trees, oaks are the undisputed champions of ecological benefits, supporting countless species of birds, insects, and wildlife. Ohio is home to 11 species of native oaks, and chances are, you have one near your home, school, or workplace.
By tying a green ribbon around an oak tree, weβre celebrating its incredible contributions to the environment and inviting you to do the same!
Join the movement!
Β· Find a native oak near you and give it the recognition it deserves.
Β· Tie a ribbon to show your support for native trees and biodiversity.
Β· Plant an oak (or two or three!) to ensure a greener, more resilient future.
Together, we can turn Worthington into a thriving habitat for pollinators, wildlife, and future generations!
These articles from American Society of Landscape Architects, Smithsonian, Audubon and the New York Times explain more about the importance of planting native plants in each of our yards.
