Spreading the Word that Worthington is a Great Travel Destination
The Convention & Visitors Bureau of Worthington recently promoted the city of Worthington at the AAA Great Vacations Travel Expo. Held at Veterans Memorial in Columbus on January 18, 19 and 20, the event attracted people from around the state. Many of the more than 12,000 attendees were in search of vacation ideas and destinations. With 195 exhibitors, they had plenty to choose from.
Mindy Mace, executive director of the Convention & Visitors Bureau of Worthington, manned the booth all weekend, with the help of Mike Clevenger, a CVB board officer, on Saturday. They were part of the Experience Columbus exhibit called Play in Your
Own Backyard. "We view this as a great opportunity at the beginning of the year to make contact with people who come to the show," Mace said. "We want to get information into their hands about all the great events that will take place in Worthington in 2013." To accomplish this, they passed out small cards with a list of important events and dates, and they referred people to the CVB website for additional information (www.visitworthingtonohio.com).
In addition to the many leisure travelers, the event also attracted some tour operators. Many of these individuals were searching for group travel ideas, and one of them booked an experiential package with the CVB of Worthington.
Sponsored by the American Automobile Association (AAA), the expo featured several well-known speakers, including Andrew McCarthy, director, actor and award-winning travel writer; Peter Greenberg, travel editor for CBS News; and Lisa Whelchel, actress, author and Survivor contestant. Additional attractions and activities included The Vacation Marketplace, Paradise Pavilion, Lake Erie Shores & Islands Feature, The Great Outdoors Adventure Area, Play In Your Own Backyard Pavilion, the AAA Explore Store, and a lineup of activities for the kids.
