Igloo Letterpress Hosts Columbus Monthly Poster Party on July 28
Unless you’ve been living under a rock this month, you already know that the July cover of Columbus Monthly magazine features a hand-printed poster crafted by Igloo Letterpress proprietor Allison Chapman. Since so many people have expressed an interest in purchasing the poster, Igloo Letterpress will be hosting a Poster Party this Saturday, July 28 from noon to 3:30 p.m.
What’s a Poster Party?
For starters, Chapman printed a limited edition of the Columbus Monthly poster, as well as another run that includes only the poster background with the decorative elements and no words. During the party, people of all ages can personalize the poster with their own words, like “The Smith Family.” It’s a wonderful opportunity to create your own memento, but it’s also a great way to try out the shop’s antique 80- to 100-year-old handcrafted wood type.
Shopkeeper Beth Dekker invites people to simply stop by on Saturday. No reservations are required. But plan to set aside about a half hour to an hour to complete your project.
Ever since the magazine hit the newsstands, there’s been plenty of excitement at Igloo Letterpress. “We are in love with the city, so it was such an honor when they asked us to print (the cover),” Dekker says. “This is a very complex, five-color print—very unusual and very fun.”
In addition to being a great source for unique handcrafted work, Igloo is also an active art studio where customers can tap into their creative ideas. Project-based classes, interactive tours and open studio time give visitors a chance to try their hand at making everything from pop-up books to wedding invitations.
