Gourmet Food and Wine—A Perfect Pairing at The Worthington Inn
Calling all wine connoisseurs! For the past 11 years, The Worthington Inn has been skillfully pairing gourmet food and wine for its monthly First Wednesday Wine Dinner. Hosted and prepared by Chef Thomas Smith, and in conjunction with House Wine in Downtown Worthington, the monthly dinner offers visitors a chance to sample delicious seasonal flavors with a truly global influence.
Drawing upon his French culinary training, Chef Smith enjoys creating meals that celebrate regions from around the world. He chooses a particular
area to feature each month and creates a menu that highlights the specific flavors and foods indigenous to that region. He then sends the menu to Donnie Austin, manager at House Wine, who carefully pairs wines with each course.
“Our wine dinners are not only a fantastic dining experience, but also an education on gourmet food and wine," Chef Smith said. “Donnie and I focus on flavors that complement and rhyme with each other, producing a perfect chemical balance for the palate,” he continued.
Guests of the monthly wine dinner are treated to a four-course meal complete with introductions and background information on the specific food and wine chosen for each course. “The wine dinners offer a great opportunity for guests to experience quality, high-end wines that they might not otherwise select,“ Chef Smith said. "Because food and wine pair so perfectly together, the flavors are magnified and greatly enhanced,” he added.
The Worthington Inn offers its wine dinner on the first Wednesday of every month. The cost is $65 per person (excluding tax and gratuity), and reservations are required. Call today to reserve your spot for next month’s dinner! Chef Smith is already busy planning a decadent menu featuring the flavors of New Orleans. We're confident you’ll love it!
