The Hungarian Butcher Reopens After a Fire
The beloved Linworth butcher shop is back in action after a fire this spring!
Fans of The Hungarian Butcher’s pastrami, rejoice! The Old World butcher shop reopened at the end of June following a fire over Memorial Day weekend. Clean up and restoration took about a month, but now owner Dan Varga and his team are back up and running.
Thankfully, Varga says they’ve been busier than ever, with both new and returning customers flooding the shop for his expert cuts of meat, charcuterie, bacon, pastrami, and everything in-between. Varga also produces unique finds like Hungarian sausages, head cheese, pate, terrines, and beef tongue, and he whips up favorite condiments from scratch, too, like pickles, mustards, and sauerkraut.
Fans of his Linworth shop love how Varga keeps Old World traditions alive. He sources his meats from around Ohio and does everything by hand, from breaking down cuts of meat, to slicing them up, to aging and curing them. It’s a rare find these days.
The Hungarian Butcher’s cases are also stocked with plenty of snacks, jarred peppers, and locally made goods, from hot sauces to maple syrup to spices. They also plan to bring back prepared Hungarian dinners like stuffed peppers, paprikash, and goulash, and Varga has eyes towards expansion in the future.
The Hungarian Butcher is currently open Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
