Feeding Neighbors in Need
Healthy Worthington Resource Center & Food Pantry to Host Annual Fundraiser
The Healthy Worthington Resource Center & Food Pantry is hosting its second annual Swingin’ Summer Fundraiser on July 27 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Shops at Worthington Place. The event, which is designed to help support the organization’s operations, will feature food samplings from favorite local restaurants, music, auction items and a
cash bar.
Highlights of this year’s event include music by The Ukulele Cowboy Society, food from Cameron Mitchell Catering, and live and silent auctions. Columbus Dispatch columnist Joe Blundo will host the event. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at http://swinginsummerfundraiser-eorg.eventbrite.com/. Additional opportunities exist to make general donations, including various options to Feed a Family–either monthly or for an entire year.
Last year just under 200 people attended the fundraiser, raising more than $15,000. Event planners hope to exceed that attendance by attracting at least 250 people to this year’s event. Some of the popular live auction items include an OSU football ticket package and a
week’s vacation in a four-bedroom home in Bald Head Island, North Carolina, while silent auction items range from passes to the Columbus Museum of Art to a round of golf for three at Worthington Hills Country Club.
For the past four years, the Healthy Worthington Resource Center & Food Pantry has been helping to feed neighbors in need. The non-denominational, not-for-profit organization depends entirely upon the support of its community partners, including businesses, churches, residents and volunteers. Located at 445 E. Dublin-Granville Road, the organization serves as a warm and
friendly place where local individuals and families can obtain temporary food, personal items and referral support. There is no question that the need is great. The organization served 1,332 neighbors in 2012 compared to only 464 in 2010, an increase of 287 percent over the two-year period.
