Veggie Spy & Versatile Vegan

Red, Round, and Rad: Cherries, Strawberries, Tomatoes, and Radishes!

If you have a hankering for radically delicious produce that is red, round, nutritious, and local, then head to the Market on Saturday! Cherry season is starting, and you can find both sweet and tart cherries at Gillogly Orchard and Franklinton Farms.  Strawberry season is winding down, but they are still available from Moreland Fruit Farm and Raber Family Organics. Tomatoes have been with us for a couple weeks and there will be even more this week with both cherry and slicing types from Raber Family Organics, Moreland Fruit Farm, and Toad Hill. And many vendors have radishes, with the most unusual possibly being the purplish spicy Bacchus variety from new vendor Feed Me Tomatoes

Red produce is mighty healthy and the Versatile Vegan has some yummy recipe suggestions starting with a  Strawberry Lemonade Slushie that’s perfect for a hot June day. Put those cherries to good use in these Vegan Cherry Dark Chocolate Chip Muffins. And try out a twist on radishes by pickling them!

Other Finds

On the fruit front, Franklinton Farms and Moreland Fruit Farm will have raspberries. Rock Dove has Japanese cucumbers. Oakleaf has sugar snap and English peas. Drift Hills expects to have carrots, cauliflower, and squash.

Meet the Vendors!

A new segment in our weekly blog will feature up to 3 market vendors each week and the people behind the products you love.

JJ’s Meat Fixins

The Little Dot

We have seen so many new faces since we are back at the @worthingtonfarmersmarket so we want to reintroduce the face behind all the baked goods!

This is Heidy, she is the baker and owner of The Little Dot (TLD). She bakes days and nights to get as many products ready for the Worthington Farmers Market as she possibly can. She was born and raised in Hong Kong and moved to Worthington 3 years ago to be closer to her parents. Heidy takes an annual trip (~ 2 months) to Hong Kong and surrounding Asian countries to learn new techniques, test recipes and develop new items.

Come say Hi to Heidy next time you stop by our booth!

A Reminder to BYOWB

As summer temperatures climb, we encourage you to stay hydrated during your visit to the market! Remember to BYOWB (that's bring your own water bottle) and refill it at the The Worthington Partnership Green Team's water bottle filling station and drinking fountain located on the Southwest Village Green. In order to reduce our plastic waste, the Market is no longer selling bottled water.

Thank you to the City of Worthington Government for supporting us on this sustainability project and thank you to The Worthington Partnership Green Team for working so hard to raise the funds to make it happen!

Pick up a WFM 24-oz stainless steel water bottle (not shown here) at the information booth for only $3.00!
