Try Something New at the Worthington Community Center

Community Center

After an extra-long January thaw, Old Man Winter has returned with a vengeance. While that may seem like a good reason to hibernate, the folks at the Worthington Community Center have something different in mind. In fact, they're offering a host of winter activities designed to lure you out of the house. From swimming lessons and water aerobics, to sports, art and language classes, there really is something for everyone. “We are one of the few places in the Columbus area where you can truly try it all,” said Melissa Hindman, marketing and community outreach supervisor. “We strive to offer an abundance of affordable activities that appeal to all ages and interests.”

Not sure where to begin? This year's Winter Activity Brochure, titled “Try Something New,” is a great way to start. Here's a sampling of what you'll find:

Aquatics In addition to a four-lane fitness pool and a 12-person hot tub, the natatorium is an exciting area for kids, especially with its zero-entry leisure pool and 110-foot slide. Swimming lessons begin at 6 months of age.

Adults in search of a great, low-impact workout will love the center’s aquatic fitness classes. Thanks to a wide variety of options and meeting times, it's easy to work out day or night.

Youth Programs – Youth sports and other activities can be expensive and time consuming. The Community Center offers short sessions at affordable prices, so you can introduce your children to numerous activities as they grow, without going broke.

While the list of kids' classes is extensive, here are a few that stood out:

  • Gym & Swim Lunch Bunch (4-7 years old): This class is a win for kids—and parents. Drop your little one off for a few hours of fun while you enjoy a much-needed breather.
  • Ballet (2-6 years old): Always a popular class offering, your tiny dancer will love learning to plié with Miss Keenie.
  • Jump Start Spring Break Camp (Grades K-4): Need a fun spring break activity? This all-day camp incorporates a variety of sports, including swimming.
  • LEGO Maniacs (Grades 1-3): Join other LEGO fanatics as they build a new themed creation each week.

Adult Programs – And they say kids have all of the fun?! Here are a few of our favorite adult class offerings

  • Group Fitness Drop-In Classes: Looking for variety in your workout? Purchase a punch card or pay a daily, drop-in rate to enjoy classes like spinning, cardio barre, Insanity, Zumba and belly dancing.
  • Walk Worthington Cap City Half Training: If you've dreamed about competing in a marathon, but you hate to run, then you're not alone. Join friends at the Community Center and Walk Worthington for an 8-week training course.
  • Mind Body Classes – This is the place to be for yoga, Pilates and barre. Classes are offered seven days a week at various times.
  • Silversneakers Fitness (65 +) – This unique program offers ongoing sessions aimed at keeping seniors active and healthy.

Summer Camps – It’s not summer yet, but it’s almost time for summer camp sign-ups. Stop by the Community Center on February 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. for the Summer Camp Fair Expo, which will include games, snacks and giveaways.
