Natalie’s Coal-Fired Pizza and Live Music – Great Pizza, Great Tunes

Pizza fans all over Columbus have fallen in love with Natalie’s Coal-Fired Pizza and Live Music, and for good reason. Proud to be Ohio’s first and only coal-fired pizza restaurant, Natalie’s serves up authentic old world, New York style pies, outstanding live music and a friendly neighborhood vibe. The owners are not strangers to the restaurant industry. Natalie Jackson spent her high school years working at Gio’s Pizza & Pub in Circleville, while her dad, Charlie, played and booked live music in the restaurant. After finishing college, Natalie took a job in New York City and instantly fell in love with the Big Apple’s famous pizzas. During her time there, she frequented plenty of pizza joints, finally settling on her favorites – all of which were coal-fired.

“I was always chatting with the staff and with the chefs, trying to find out what made their pizzas, and more specifically, their dough, so amazing,” Natalie said. “The more I learned, the more I had a desire to bring this style of pizza home to Ohio.” With “healthy curiosity and a little fearlessness,” said Charlie, the father-daughter team decided to go into business together, opening the restaurant in August of 2012.

About the Pizza

The magic behind Natalie’s pizza is definitely their dough. “Like our favorite NYC spots, we use a sourdough starter, clean filtered water and cook our pizzas in an anthracite coal-fired oven at about 1000 degrees,” Natalie explained. The result? Pies that come out perfectly cooked with irresistibly blistered and crisp edges.

The team uses a 100-year-old sourdough starter, affectionately named Jedediah, which was given to them by a dear friend in Wyoming. They then top each pizza with fresh ingredients and house-made mozzarella. “Our menu is simple and straightforward,” Charlie said. “Because of the space restraints in our kitchen, we serve one size of pizza and focus our efforts on a small menu full of delicious, made-from-scratch dishes.”

While classic New York style pizzas like the Margherita and Greenwich Village are staples in the restaurant, Natalie’s chefs are always experimenting with new flavors. “I couldn’t speak about our food without mentioning our amazing staff,” Natalie said. “Our chefs are creative and always working to perfect our product.”

More About Natalie's

In addition to pizza, Natalie’s menu boasts small plates, salads, fine cheeses and an impressive craft beer, wine and cocktail list. Natalie and Charlie are fans of the Worthington Farmers Market, and they also prepare a seasonal pizza made with fresh farmers market ingredients. In addition to dinner, which is served Tuesday through Saturday, you’ll want to try their popular Sunday brunch with delicious menu items like breakfast pizzas, Eggs Benedict and cinnamon rolls.

And while the food is certainly something to write home about, folks all over Ohio and as far away as Nashville are talking about Natalie’s live music. With a packed calendar full of unique singer-songwriter acts, patrons can enjoy high-quality live music nearly every night of the week.
